McDaniel College Budapest serves as the European campus for McDaniel College, an accredited private institution specializing in Liberal Arts and Sciences, based in Westminster, Maryland, United States. Established in 1993, the Budapest campus offers a standard American four-year undergraduate program, culminating in an American Bachelor of Arts degree. Students have the option to complete their final two years of study at the main campus in the United States, and credits earned at the Budapest campus are fully transferable to any other American college or university. The Budapest campus is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is officially registered as a foreign institution of higher education in Hungary by the Hungarian Minister of Education.
History and Development
McDaniel College was originally established in Maryland in 1867 and has a long-standing tradition of prioritizing diversity, student-centered excellence, and global learning. The European campus, located in Budapest, hosts international students from 21 different countries, delivering American higher education excellence in Hungary. The Budapest campus was initially located in a modern educational center on the Buda side but moved in 2001 to its current location, a restored late 19th-century school building adjacent to the Veterinary College of Szent István University.
Since its founding, McDaniel College Budapest has seen more than 300 students graduate who began their studies in Budapest. The campus facilities include a computer lab, classrooms, a boardroom, a gymnasium, and a cafeteria. The average class size is eight students, fostering a personalized and student-centered learning environment. The college also has a student newspaper, the Messenger.
