Course Description

With a legacy spanning over 235 years in research and teaching, the Department of French Studies at the Faculty of Humanities holds the distinction of being the oldest French department in Hungary. A team of 20 highly qualified instructors, including three native French speakers, offer students a comprehensive education encompassing language proficiency, literary studies spanning from the Middle Ages to modern times, and courses in French civilization.

The Master’s program also provides students with the opportunity to prepare for doctoral studies. This course is designed to nurture high-level specialists capable of meeting the specific demands of the labor market, both in public and private sectors. The need for French graduates is on the rise, particularly in multinational companies.

Furthermore, this program equips students with the skills needed to pursue further studies in one of the Doctoral Schools within the Faculty. Graduates of this program typically find positions in education and research, tourism management, banking and finance, as well as intercultural communications.

The program empowers students to become authorities in French philology, facilitators in various realms of French culture, experts on French cultural matters, journalists, and specialists in diplomatic affairs. Throughout the Master’s program, students engage in diverse research areas, delving into French literature from the Medieval era to the contemporary, honing their ability to conduct sophisticated discourse and literary analysis, and constructing well-informed arguments rooted in a profound understanding of linguistics, both synchronic and diachronic, from theoretical to applied linguistic perspectives.
